List of Supermarkets in Dubai: What Each Is Good For and Today's Prices
If you shop for a family or just for yourself in Dubai, the store you pick can change what you pay for the same basics.
This guide covers five UAE supermarkets and hypermarkets in our comparison: Carrefour, Lulu, Viva, Nesto and Kibsons. We checked fresh milk, eggs, basmati rice, sunflower oil and sugar on 26 October 2026 to show where each store is strongest today.
Prices change daily, so treat these as a snapshot of today rather than a permanent ranking.
The supermarkets in today's comparison
We looked at the cheapest good match for each of five staples at Carrefour, Lulu, Viva, Nesto and Kibsons.
No single store had all five items today. Carrefour and Viva each matched four, Nesto matched two, Lulu matched one and Kibsons had no matches in this basket. That makes it worth knowing which store to visit for which item.
Carrefour: good for milk and cooking oil by the litre
Carrefour Full Fat Fresh Milk, 3.8L is AED 14.99 today, down from AED 19.99 (25% off). That works out at AED 3.94 per litre.
Nawar Sunflower Oil, 3L is AED 19.99 (was AED 25.79), or AED 6.66 per litre. That is the lowest per-litre oil price in today's data.
Sinnara Basmati Rice, 5kg is AED 29.99, down from AED 42.29, at AED 6.00 per kg. A good discount, but Viva's rice is cheaper per kg today.
The only egg match at Carrefour was Boiled Eggs 1 Piece at AED 0.99. Handy for a snack, but not a like-for-like swap for a tray of 30.
Viva: good for rice, eggs and small sugar packs
Ama Basmati Rice at Viva is AED 18.99 today (was AED 22.99), listed at AED 3.80 per kg. That is the cheapest rice per kg in our comparison.
White Eggs 30's are AED 12.30, down from AED 13.99. This was the only full tray of eggs in today's data.
White Sugar 1kg is AED 3.30 (was AED 11.63, 72% off), the lowest upfront sugar price today.
Sunflower Oil 1.5Liters Pack of 2 is AED 21.50 (was AED 53.62), or AED 7.17 per litre. Cheaper upfront than some larger bottles, but Carrefour's Nawar oil is lower per litre.
Nesto: good for sugar in bulk
Mr.Chef White Sugar 2Kg is AED 5.99 at Nesto today (was AED 7.95). At AED 3.00 per kg it beats Viva's 1kg pack on unit price, so it suits households that get through sugar quickly.
Meezan Gold Pure Sunflower Oil 4Lt is AED 31.99 (was AED 42.99), or AED 8.00 per litre. It is the biggest bottle in today's data, but the most expensive per litre.
Lulu and Kibsons: limited matches today
Lulu matched only fresh milk today. LuLu Full Cream Fresh Milk 1 Gallon is AED 18.25, down from AED 23.10 (21% off).
Kibsons had no matches for any of the five staples in today's basket, so we cannot compare its prices on these items.
How the basket totals compare today
Viva came to AED 56.09 for four items and Carrefour to AED 65.96 for four items. They are not the same four, though: Carrefour had milk but no full egg tray, while Viva had eggs but no milk.
Nesto's AED 37.98 covers just two items and Lulu's AED 18.25 covers one, so lower totals here mean fewer items, not cheaper shopping.
The smartest approach today is to split the list: rice, eggs and sugar from Viva or Nesto, and milk and oil from Carrefour.
| Store | Fresh milk | Eggs | Basmati rice | Sunflower oil | Sugar | Basket total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carrefour | AED 14.99 (3.8L) | AED 0.99 (1 boiled egg) | AED 29.99 (5kg) | AED 19.99 (3L) | Not found | AED 65.96 for 4/5 |
| Viva | Not found | AED 12.30 (30 eggs) | AED 18.99 (5kg) | AED 21.50 (2 x 1.5L) | AED 3.30 (1kg) | AED 56.09 for 4/5 |
| Nesto | Not found | Not found | Not found | AED 31.99 (4L) | AED 5.99 (2kg) | AED 37.98 for 2/5 |
| Lulu | AED 18.25 (1 gallon) | Not found | Not found | Not found | Not found | AED 18.25 for 1/5 |
| Kibsons | Not found | Not found |
Quick ways to save
- Compare price per kg or per litre, not just the shelf price. Viva's oil is AED 21.50 but Carrefour's works out cheaper per litre at AED 6.66.
- Check that items really match. A single boiled egg at AED 0.99 is not the same as a tray of 30 at AED 12.30.
- Many of today's best prices are discounts, such as Viva's sugar at 72% off, so stock up on long-life staples while offers last.
- Splitting your shop between two stores can save more than sticking to one, as no store had all five staples today.
- Buy larger packs only when the unit price is lower. Nesto's 2kg sugar is cheaper per kg, but its 4L oil is not.
